As you may or may not know Martin is a falconer and throughout his life has rescued many raptors and successfully rewilded them.
Meet Zephyr our lastest addition a young Martial Eagle.
Zephyr came to us via our friend and wildlife tracker Simintai from The Mokogodo Maasai community on the Mokogodo plains above Tassia.
This Eagle had been seen close to people’s ‘manyattas’ homesteads trying to catch chickens. Each day it was seen it was weaker. Perhaps having been pushed out of its nest too early before being taught to hunt.
Eventually the eagle was too weak to fly and Simintai looked after it and called Martin to pick it up.
He left with Shay our 4year old son and arrived back with Zephyr sitting next to Shay on the front car seat. From day one Zeph was so friendly and ate off the glove immediately. Martin felt fine letting the kids into the cage with him.
Now Zephyr is strong, having filled out feeding well and ready to learn to hunt again. We will keep you posted. Follow this story…
